Garbage Disposal maintenance is something people don’t think about. With a simple few steps you can extend the life and effectiveness of your unit. A lot of people throw everything under the sun in the G/D.  So as you can imagine tons of food debris is constantly running through the tiny holes of the G/D and out. The holes fill up and can get clogged regularly and flush out when turned on. What people don’t know is that overtime things tend to stick together and form larger chucks. Eventually it turns into a G/D jam or a clog. So what is the simple step I tell all my customers to do?

Once or twice a month, depending on your cooking habits. Take a big pile of ice and fill up your disposal. Turn on your cold water and let it run while you run your Garbage Disposal. Once all the ice is gone stop the water. Fill the sink Up with Hot water. Pop the plug and run your disposal. That’s IT!

This is a great way to get a lot of the left behind food out and sharpen the “blades” of the unit.
